## Biography

David Barker is an American film editor, screenwriter and director. He studied philosophy and anthropology before entering film and is a member of the American Cinema Editors.

He is known for his collaborations with director Petra Costa, serving as co-writer and editor on the documentaries *The Edge of Democracy* (2019) and *Apocalypse in the Tropics* (2024). Barker has also edited fiction features including *Shirley* (2020) and *Birds of Paradise* (2021) for Josephine Decker, as well as *Approaching the Unknown* (2016).

Earlier in his career he directed the features *Afraid of Everything* (1999) and *Daylight* (2010), and he has taught at several universities including Brown and Bard.
