## Biography

David Bezmozgis is a Latvian-born Canadian writer and filmmaker. Born in Riga in 1973, he immigrated to Toronto with his family at the age of six. He graduated with a BA in English literature from McGill University and received an MFA from the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts.

He is the author of the short story collection *Natasha and Other Stories* (2004) and the novels *The Free World* (2011) and *The Betrayers* (2014). His screenwriting credits include the feature films *Victoria Day* (2009) and *Natasha* (2015), which he also directed, and the animated film *Charlotte* (2021). He served as a writer and producer on the fifth season of the television series *Orphan Black* (2017).

Bezmozgis is head of Humber College's School for Writers.
