## Biography

David Bischoff (1951–2018) was an American science fiction and television writer. He wrote two episodes of *Star Trek: The Next Generation*: 'Tin Man' (1990, co-written with Dennis Putman Bailey) and 'First Contact' (1991, co-written with others), as well as the tie-in novel *Grounded* (1993).

Bischoff began writing in the early 1970s while studying at the University of Maryland. He published more than 80 books, including novelisations of films and series such as *Aliens*, *Gremlins 2: The New Batch* and *WarGames*. His 1978 short story 'Tin Woodman', co-written with Dennis R. Bailey and nominated for a Nebula Award, was the basis for the *Star Trek: The Next Generation* episode 'Tin Man'.

He also wrote for other television series including *Dinosaucers* and *Space Precinct*, and taught creative writing at Seton Hill University.
