## Biography

David Bretherton was an American film editor. Born in Los Angeles on 29 February 1924, he was the son of editor and director Howard Bretherton. He served in the United States Air Force during the Second World War and joined the editing department at Twentieth Century-Fox after the war.

His credits as editor include *Peyton Place* (1957), *The Diary of Anne Frank* (1959), *The Train* (1964), *Cabaret* (1972), *Westworld* (1973), *Caddyshack* (1980) and *Sea of Love* (1989). He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for *Cabaret* and received the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 1995. Bretherton died in Los Angeles on 11 May 2000.
