## Biography

David Gropman is an American production designer. Born in Los Angeles in 1952, he studied stage design at San Francisco State University and earned an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. He began his career in theatre, with scenic design credits on Broadway productions including *Come Back to the 5 and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean* (1982) and several Off-Broadway shows.

Gropman moved into film in 1982 after working with director Robert Altman. He has collaborated frequently with directors including Ang Lee, Lasse Hallström and Steven Zaillian. His production design credits include *The Cider House Rules* (1999), *Chocolat* (2000), *Hairspray* (2007), *Doubt* (2008), *Life of Pi* (2012), *Fences* (2016) and the Netflix series *Ripley* (2024). He received Academy Award nominations for *The Cider House Rules* and *Life of Pi*.
