David Langton was a British actor, born Basil Muir Langton-Dodds on 16 April 1912 in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He began his career in the theatre after leaving school at 16, touring with a Shakespearean company. He served in the British Army during the Second World War, reaching the rank of major, before returning to acting in the late 1940s.

Langton achieved his greatest recognition playing Richard Bellamy in the period drama series *Upstairs, Downstairs* (1971–1975). His other screen credits include appearances in *A Hard Day's Night* (1964), *The Avengers* (1961–1967), *Quintet* (1979), *The Hound of the Baskervilles* (1983) and *The Whistle Blower* (1986). His son Simon Langton directed episodes of *Upstairs, Downstairs*.
