## Biography

David M. Thompson (born David Marcus Thompson) is a British film and television producer. He worked at the BBC from 1978, initially as a film programmer and documentary maker, and served as head of BBC Films from 1997 until 2007.

In 2007 he founded Origin Pictures. He has produced or executive produced numerous films including *Billy Elliot* (2000), *Eastern Promises* (2007), *Revolutionary Road* (2008), *The Other Boleyn Girl* (2008), *The Duchess* (2008), *The Awakening* (2011), *Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom* (2013) and *Woman in Gold* (2015). He has also edited several books on film directors.
