## Biography

David Maysles (1931–1987) was an American documentary filmmaker and a founder of Maysles Films. He worked closely with his older brother Albert as part of the Maysles brothers, specialising in direct cinema.

He directed, produced and edited *Salesman* (1969) with Albert Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin. He directed, produced and shot *Gimme Shelter* (1970) with Albert Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin, and directed, produced and shot *Grey Gardens* (1975) with Albert Maysles, Ellen Hovde and Muffie Meyer. He also appeared uncredited as himself in *Grey Gardens*.

Maysles was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and died in New York City.
