## Biography

David Nobbs was an English comedy writer and novelist. He created and wrote the BBC sitcom *The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin* (1976–79), adapted from his own novels, and later wrote the follow-up series *The Legacy of Reginald Perrin* (1996) and a 2009 remake.

Born in Orpington, Kent, Nobbs was educated at Marlborough College and St John's College, Cambridge. He worked as a reporter for the *Sheffield Star* before beginning his comedy career writing for *That Was the Week That Was* in the early 1960s. He contributed material to performers including Frankie Howerd, Les Dawson, Kenneth Williams and The Two Ronnies. Other notable works include the sitcom *A Bit of a Do* (1989) and the Henry Pratt series of novels. He published an autobiography, *I Didn't Get Where I Am Today*, in 2003.
