David Rabe is an American playwright and screenwriter. Born on 10 March 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa, he studied at Loras College and Villanova University, where he earned an M.A. in 1968. He served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967.

Rabe is known for a series of plays drawing on his military experiences, including *Sticks and Bones* (1972), which won the Tony Award for Best Play, and *Streamers* (1976). His screenplays include *Casualties of War* (1989) and *The Firm* (1993). He also adapted his play *Hurlyburly* for the 1998 film.
