## Biography

David Tree (born Ian David Parsons; 15 July 1915 – 4 November 2009) was an English stage and screen actor. He came from a theatrical family as the grandson of actor-manager Herbert Beerbohm Tree and the son of actress Viola Tree and theatre critic Alan Parsons.

Tree began appearing on stage as a child and entered films in 1937. His roles included Freddy Eynsford-Hill in *Pygmalion* (1938), Jackson in *Goodbye, Mr. Chips* (1939), Robert Mackenzie in *Q Planes* (1939) and Charles Lomax in *Major Barbara* (1941). After wartime service in the British Army, during which he lost his left hand, he left acting for farming. In 1973 he returned for a single film role as Anthony Babbage in *Don't Look Now*, directed by his friend Nicolas Roeg; the Tree family home was used for some scenes.
