## Biography

David Yallop was a British writer of television scripts and non-fiction books. Born David Anthony Yallop in South London on 27 January 1937, he left school at 14 and, after National Service, worked as a studio floor manager at Rediffusion and later London Weekend Television before becoming a full-time television writer in 1965.

He wrote episodes for series including *Crown Court*, *Doctor on the Go* and *Minder* (credited as David A. Yallop or David Yallop on episodes from series 5, 7, 8 and 9). In 1989 he was dismissed as a scriptwriter for *EastEnders* after proposing controversial storylines and successfully sued the BBC for breach of contract. He also wrote screenplays for the films *Beyond Reasonable Doubt* (1980) and *Chicago Joe and the Showgirl* (1990), and co-authored Graham Chapman’s *A Liar’s Autobiography (Volume VI)* (1980).

Yallop’s best-known books examined crime, miscarriages of justice and conspiracies, including *In God’s Name* (1984) on the death of Pope John Paul I. He died on 23 August 2018.
