## Biography

Deirdre English is an American journalist and editor. She served as editor-in-chief of Mother Jones magazine from 1981 to 1986 and has contributed to publications including The Nation and The New York Times Book Review. She co-authored the book For Her Own Good: Two Centuries of the Experts' Advice to Women with Barbara Ehrenreich.

English appeared as herself in the 1994 documentary film *Crumb*, offering commentary on the work of cartoonist Robert Crumb. She has also taught journalism and American studies at institutions including the University of California, Berkeley.
