## Biography

Dell Henderson was a Canadian-American actor, director and writer. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, he began his career on the stage before appearing in his first film in 1908. He worked frequently with D.W. Griffith from 1909 and also appeared in films for Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios.

Henderson directed nearly 200 silent films between 1911 and 1928, including some with Harry Carey and Roscoe Arbuckle, and wrote numerous screenplays. After retiring from directing in 1927, he returned to acting and took supporting roles in King Vidor's *The Crowd* (1928) and *Show People* (1928). With the coming of sound he played many smaller character parts, often as pompous figures such as judges or businessmen, appearing in films including *It's a Gift* (1934), *The Awful Truth* (1937) and *Make Way for Tomorrow* (1937). He was married to actress Florence Lee.
