## Biography

Dennis Kelly is a British writer for theatre, film and television. Born in London in 1970, he studied Drama and Theatre Arts at Goldsmiths College, University of London, graduating with a first-class degree after earlier working in retail. He began writing plays in his early thirties, with early works including *Debris* (2003) and *DNA* (2008).

On television he co-created and co-wrote the BBC Three sitcom *Pulling* (2006–2009) with Sharon Horgan and created and wrote the Channel 4 series *Utopia* (2013–2014). He also wrote an episode of *Spooks* (2009). His other screen credits include the screenplay for the film *Black Sea* (2014) and the book for the stage musical *Matilda the Musical* (2010), later adapted for the 2022 film. He has received BAFTA nominations and a Tony Award for his work on *Matilda*.
