## Biography

Dennis Weaver was an American actor. He is best known for playing Chester Goode, deputy to Marshal Matt Dillon, in the television series Gunsmoke from 1955 to 1964, and for his leading role as Deputy Marshal Sam McCloud in the series McCloud.

Weaver appeared as the Mirador Motel night manager in Orson Welles's film Touch of Evil (1958). He starred as David Mann in the 1971 television film Duel, directed by Steven Spielberg. He also directed episodes of Gunsmoke. Weaver served as president of the Screen Actors Guild.
