## Biography

Derek Granger was a British television and film producer and screenwriter. Born in Bramhall, Cheshire, he worked as a journalist and drama critic for the Financial Times before joining Granada Television in 1958 as a researcher, later becoming head of plays.

At Granada he produced the anthology series *Country Matters* (1972–73) and the miniseries *Brideshead Revisited* (1981), an adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s novel that took three years to complete and won seven BAFTAs. After leaving the company in 1982 he produced the literary adaptations *A Handful of Dust* (1988) and *Where Angels Fear to Tread* (1991), both directed by Charles Sturridge. He also produced early episodes of *Coronation Street* and episodes of *World in Action*.

Granger died in London on 29 November 2022, aged 101.
