## Biography

Derrick Sherwin was an English television writer, story editor, producer and actor. He began his career in the theatre as a set designer and stage manager before becoming an actor in television and films. He later turned to freelance writing, contributing scripts to series including *Z-Cars* (1967) and *Crossroads*.

Sherwin joined *Doctor Who* (1963) in 1967 as story editor. He wrote the first episode of *The Mind Robber* (uncredited) and the script for *The Invasion* (1968), which introduced the UNIT organisation. He served as producer for the final Patrick Troughton serial *The War Games* (1969) and Jon Pertwee's debut *Spearhead from Space* (1970), overseeing the transition to colour. He also co-produced *Paul Temple* for the BBC.
