## Biography

Diane Varsi was an American film actress. She made her screen debut as Allison MacKenzie in the 1957 melodrama *Peyton Place*, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She shared the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Actress the following year.

Varsi appeared in supporting roles in films including *Compulsion* (1959) and the cult film *Wild in the Streets* (1968). She left Hollywood in the late 1950s to pursue other interests, studying poetry at Bennington College in Vermont, before returning to acting in the mid-1960s. Her later credits include *Bloody Mama* (1970), *Johnny Got His Gun* (1971) and *I Never Promised You a Rose Garden* (1977). She died in 1992.
