## Biography

Dick Huemer was an American animator, director and writer. Born in New York City, he began his career in animation at the Raoul Barré studio in 1916. He later worked at Fleischer Studios, where he developed the Koko the Clown character, and at the Charles Mintz studio before joining Walt Disney Productions in 1933.

At Disney, Huemer contributed to numerous short films and features. He served as story director on *Fantasia* (1940) and wrote the screenplay for *Dumbo* (1941), often in partnership with Joe Grant. His other credits include story work on *Saludos Amigos* (1943), *Make Mine Music* (1946) and *Alice in Wonderland* (1951). He left Disney briefly from 1948 to 1951 to create animated television commercials and the comic strip *The Adventures of Buck O'Rue*.

Huemer remained at Disney until 1973. He received a Mousecar from the studio in 1973 and the Winsor McCay Award in 1978. He was named a Disney Legend in 2007.
