## Biography

Dom DeLuise was an American actor and comedian. Born Dominick DeLuise in Brooklyn, New York, on 1 August 1933, he attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York City and studied biology at Tufts University. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and made his television debut on variety shows in the 1960s.

DeLuise appeared in several films by Mel Brooks, including *Blazing Saddles* (1974), and collaborated with Gene Wilder and Burt Reynolds. From the 1980s he voiced characters in animated films, including Jeremy in *The Secret of NIMH* (1982), Tiger in *An American Tail* (1986), Fagin in *Oliver & Company* (1988), and Itchy Itchiford in *All Dogs Go to Heaven* (1989). He died on 4 May 2009.
