## Biography

Dominique Baffier is a French archaeologist and prehistorian specialising in Palaeolithic parietal art. She trained at the École du Louvre and the Sorbonne, studying under André Leroi-Gourhan, and joined the CNRS in 1973. She later worked on excavations at Pincevent and, from the early 1990s, directed research at the Arcy-sur-Cure caves.

In 2000 she was appointed curator of the Chauvet Cave, a role she held until 2014, overseeing conservation and public communication. She appears as herself in Werner Herzog’s 2010 documentary *Cave of Forgotten Dreams*, discussing the cave’s paintings. Baffier is an officer of the French Order of Merit.
