## Biography

Don Beddoe was an American character actor. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Welsh tenor Dan Beddoe. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with bachelor's and master's degrees and taught English for three years before pursuing acting.

After a decade of stage work, including a Broadway debut in 1929, Beddoe began film roles in the late 1930s. He was typically cast as reporters or similar types. His career was interrupted by service in the United States Army Air Corps during the Second World War, where he appeared in the play *Winged Victory*. He returned to small character parts in films and made numerous television appearances.

Beddoe is known for his role as Walt Spoon in *The Night of the Hunter* (1955). He appeared in more than 250 films and dozens of television programmes, including episodes of *Little House on the Prairie*, *Bewitched* and *Perry Mason*. He died in Laguna Hills, California, in 1991.
