He appeared as Richard Bowens in the 1983 film *The Big Chill* and was best known for playing Detective Sergeant Ed Brown in the NBC series *Ironside* (1967–1975), a role he reprised in the 1993 television film *The Return of Ironside*. Born in Augusta, Kentucky, on 27 July 1937, Galloway graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in drama. He began his career in New York with off-Broadway and Broadway productions before moving into television, with early roles in soap operas and guest appearances on series such as *Arrest and Trial*.
