## Biography

Don Knotts was an American actor and comedian, born Jesse Donald Knotts on 21 July 1924 in Morgantown, West Virginia. He died on 24 February 2006 in Los Angeles, California.

He is best known for playing Deputy Barney Fife on the television series *The Andy Griffith Show* (1960–1965), for which he received five Emmy Awards, and Ralph Furley on *Three's Company* (1979–1984). His film roles include Luther Heggs in *The Ghost and Mr. Chicken* (1966) and the voice of Mayor Turkey Lurkey in *Chicken Little* (2005). He attended West Virginia University and began his career in variety television and stage productions.
