## Biography

Don Mankiewicz was an American screenwriter and novelist. Born in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and graduated from Columbia University in 1942.

He wrote the screenplay for the 1958 film *I Want to Live!*, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. His novel *Trial* (1955) was adapted into a film of the same name. Mankiewicz wrote the pilot episodes for the television series *Ironside* (1967) and *Marcus Welby, M.D.* (1969), and contributed to *Star Trek* (1966), *MacGyver* (1985), *Ironside* and other series. He was the brother of journalist Frank Mankiewicz and nephew of writer-director Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
