He appeared in more than 100 films from the late 1920s until his death, as well as on stage and radio. His film roles include FBI Agent Harding in *The More the Merrier* (1943), Thomas Langford in *Gilda* (1946), Police Lt. Randall in *Murder, My Sweet* (1944), and appearances in *Sergeant York* (1941), *Tarzan and the Amazons* (1945) and *Tall in the Saddle* (1944). On radio he performed multiple roles and served as announcer on *The Black Castle*, and took the title role in *John Steele, Adventurer*.
