He contributed stories and teleplays to *The Rockford Files* in the 1970s, including the final regular episode. Gold served as co-producer and in production management on *Miami Vice* (1984–1989) and later produced multiple seasons of *Diagnosis: Murder* (1990s–2000s), also directing episodes of the series. Other credits include writing for *The Six Million Dollar Man* and *CHiPs*, and producing, writing and directing the 2002 feature *Sex and the Teenage Mind*.
