## Biography

Donald Tosh (16 March 1935 – 3 December 2019) was a British screenwriter and script editor. He served as story editor on the BBC series *Doctor Who* from 1965 to 1966, overseeing stories from *The Time Meddler* to *The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve* and working with producers Verity Lambert and John Wiles. He contributed uncredited rewrites to *The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve* and *The Celestial Toymaker*.

Before *Doctor Who*, Tosh was script editor on the BBC soap *Compact* (1964–1965) and had helped develop the series that became *Coronation Street*. He later wrote episodes of *Mystery Hall* (1967), *Thirty-Minute Theatre* (1968) and *Sherlock Holmes* (1968), and served as script editor on the latter. After leaving television he worked for English Heritage as head custodian at sites including Sherborne Old Castle.
