## Biography

Doreen Lang was a New Zealand-born American character actress. She was born on 15 February 1915 in Gisborne, New Zealand, and studied drama in London. She appeared on Broadway in productions including Noël Coward's *Blithe Spirit* (1941–1943) as Edith, *Make Way for Lucia* (1948), *I Know My Love* (1949), *Season in the Sun* (1950) and *Faithfully Yours* (1951).

Lang's first film role was as Ann James in Alfred Hitchcock's *The Wrong Man* (1956). She later appeared in *North by Northwest* (1959) and *The Birds* (1963). Her television work included guest roles in series such as *Hawaii Five-O*, *Kung Fu*, *The Waltons* and *CHiPs*, as well as episodes of *Alfred Hitchcock Presents* and *Perry Mason*.

She was a naturalised United States citizen and died on 21 April 1999 in Malibu, California.
