## Biography

Doris Langley Moore (1902–1989) was a British costume designer, fashion historian and author. She designed costumes for the films *The African Queen* (1951), including Katharine Hepburn’s wardrobe, and *Freud: The Secret Passion* (1962).

She was a leading collector and scholar of historic dress, founding the Museum of Costume in Bath (now the Fashion Museum) in 1963. Moore was appointed OBE in 1971 for her contributions to the study of costume. She also wrote books on fashion history and biographies, including works on Lord Byron.
