## Biography

Doris Mattes was a German actress. She was born on 7 October 1938 and died on 23 July 2013 in Munich.

She began her career in the Munich theatre scene in the 1960s, joining the Action-Theater (later the Antiteater) where she met Rainer Werner Fassbinder. She originated the role of Gunda in his play *Katzelmacher* in 1968 and reprised it in the 1969 film. She appeared in several other Fassbinder works, including *Why Does Herr R. Run Amok?* (1970) as a neighbour, *World on a Wire* (1973) as an employee, and *Ali: Fear Eats the Soul* (1974) as Mrs. Angermayer.

Later she founded her own acting agency, representing performers including Christine Neubauer and Michael Fitz, and retired from the profession in 2008.
