## Biography

Dorothée Berryman is a Canadian actress and jazz singer from Quebec. Born on 28 April 1948 in Neufchâtel (now part of Québec City), she studied at Université Laval and began performing on stage while a student. She started her professional career in radio at CKCV in Québec and later at Radio-Canada, moving into musical theatre and television from 1971.

Berryman first appeared in films in the mid-1970s. She played Louise in Denys Arcand's *The Decline of the American Empire* (1986) and reprised the role in *The Barbarian Invasions* (2003). Other film credits include *The Red Violin* (1998) and *The Comeback* (2010), for which she won a Jutra Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also released jazz albums and hosted jazz programmes on radio. She is fluently bilingual and has appeared in English-language productions.
