Dorothy Hackett McGuire was an American actress. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she began her career on the stage and made her Broadway debut in the title role of *Claudia* in 1941. She reprised the part for her film debut in 1943.

McGuire received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role as Kathy Lacy in *Gentleman's Agreement* (1947). She appeared in films including *A Tree Grows in Brooklyn* (1945), *The Spiral Staircase* (1946), *Friendly Persuasion* (1956), *Old Yeller* (1957) and *Swiss Family Robinson* (1960), and later worked in television series such as *St. Elsewhere* and *Highway to Heaven*. She was married to photographer John Swope from 1943 until his death in 1979; they had two children.
