## Biography

Dorothy Parker was an American writer, poet, critic and screenwriter. She began her career on the editorial staff of Vogue in 1916 and moved to Vanity Fair as a drama critic the following year. She was a founding member of the Algonquin Round Table and published collections of verse and short stories, including Enough Rope (1926) and the O. Henry Award-winning 'Big Blonde' (1929).

In the 1930s Parker moved to Hollywood with her husband Alan Campbell to work as a screenwriter. She received screen credit on A Star Is Born (1937), for which she, Campbell and Robert Carson were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Story. Her other film credits include Saboteur (1942). Involvement in left-wing politics led to her being placed on the Hollywood blacklist in the 1950s, curtailing her screenwriting career. She died in New York in 1967.
