## Biography

Dorothy Yost was an American screenwriter whose career spanned the silent era into the sound period. Born on 25 April 1899 in St. Louis, Missouri, she began working in the film industry in 1917 as a secretary at the Triangle Film Corporation and was soon promoted to head of the reading department. Her first continuity script credit came in 1920.

She wrote or adapted more than ninety films. Yost co-wrote the screenplay for *The Gay Divorcee* (1934) and contributed to other Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals including *Roberta* (1935), *Swing Time* (1936) and *The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle* (1939). She also worked on *Alice Adams* (1935). In 1927 she married writer Dwight Cummings, with whom she collaborated on several scripts. Yost died on 10 June 1967 in Monrovia, California.
