## Biography

Douglas Harvey Dick (20 November 1920 – 19 December 2015) was an American actor and occasional screenwriter. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, he made his film debut in *The Searching Wind* (1946) after a screen test arranged by producer Hal B. Wallis. His best-known film role was Kenneth Lawrence in Alfred Hitchcock’s *Rope* (1948).

Dick appeared in further films including *Home of the Brave* (1949), *The Red Badge of Courage* (1951) and *Flaming Star* (1960). He worked extensively in television, with a regular role in the series *Waterfront* (1954–1955) and guest appearances in shows such as *Perry Mason*. He also wrote episodes for series including *Bewitched* and *I Dream of Jeannie*. In 1971 he left acting to practise as a psychologist, having earned a PhD from the California School of Professional Psychology.
