## Biography

Douglas Livingstone was a British writer and actor. Born on 23 May 1934 in Dagenham, Essex, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after briefly studying at Bristol University. He began his career in repertory theatre and appeared in West End productions before turning to writing in the early 1960s.

Livingstone wrote for series including *Public Eye* (1965) and *Play for Today* (from 1970). He created and wrote the screenplay for the BBC adaptation of *The Day of the Triffids* (1981). Later credits include episodes of *Midsomer Murders* (1999) and adaptations such as *The Cazalets* (2001). He also created the comedy series *Boys from the Bush* (1991–92).

In addition to television, Livingstone wrote extensively for radio. He was married to the actress Anne Carroll.
