## Biography

Dudley Simpson was an Australian composer and conductor. Born in Melbourne in 1922, he studied orchestration and composition at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. He worked with the Borovansky Ballet Company before moving to the United Kingdom, where he served as Principal Conductor of the Royal Opera House orchestra for three years.

Simpson composed incidental music for the BBC series *Doctor Who* (1963) between 1964 and 1980, contributing to dozens of stories across the eras of the first four Doctors. His other television work included music for *Moonstrike* (1963), theme music for *The Brothers* (1972) and *Blake's 7* (1978), and scores for *The Tomorrow People* (1973) and *Moonbase 3* (1973). He also composed for several BBC Television Shakespeare productions.

Simpson died in Sydney in 2017.
