## Biography

Dulal Dutta (also credited as Dulal Datta) was an Indian film editor in the Bengali cinema based in Kolkata. He moved to Kolkata from Chandannagar in the early 1940s and began working in the film industry, initially as an assistant editor in Mumbai before returning to Kolkata.

Dutta became an independent editor with films such as *Paribartan* (1949) and *Borjatri* (1951). He was introduced to Satyajit Ray in 1951 and edited every one of Ray's feature films, from *Pather Panchali* (1955) to *Agantuk* (1991), as well as several shorts and documentaries, in a collaboration spanning 36 years. He also edited films by other directors including Satyen Bose, Asit Sen and Tarun Majumdar.

After Ray's death, Dutta edited *Uttoran* (1994) and *Target* (1995), both directed by Sandip Ray. He died in Kolkata on 17 August 2010.
