## Biography

E.H. Calvert, also credited as Elisha Helm Calvert, was an American actor and film director. He was born on 27 June 1863 in Alexandria, Virginia, and died on 5 October 1941 in Hollywood, California.

He began performing in vaudeville and stock theatre after a military career as a Spanish-American War veteran. From 1912 he directed for the Essanay Company and appeared in more than 170 films, often in uniformed roles.

His credits include the Sylvanian Ambassador in *The Love Parade* (1929), Professor in Wagstaff's Study in *Horse Feathers* (1932), and Officer in Battle Sequence in *Duck Soup* (1933).
