## Biography

E. Jack Neuman was an American writer and producer. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on 27 February 1921, he was raised in Denver, Colorado, graduated from Regis Jesuit High School, studied journalism at the University of Missouri, and earned a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He served in the US Marines during the Second World War.

Neuman began his career writing for radio dramas including Suspense and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. He moved into television in the 1950s, contributing episodes to series such as Gunsmoke (1955), The Twilight Zone (1959), Dr. Kildare, and The Untouchables. He created and produced Mr. Novak (1963–1965) and Sam Benedict (1962–1963), and developed Police Story (1973). His film credit includes writing and producing The Venetian Affair (1967).

Neuman received a Peabody Award for Mr. Novak, Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America, and multiple Writers Guild of America awards. He died in Los Angeles on 15 January 1998.
