## Biography

Earl Hurd (14 September 1880 – 28 September 1940) was an American animator, film director and comic strip cartoonist. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he began as a newspaper cartoonist before moving into animation.

In 1915 he created the Bobby Bumps series of silent animated shorts for Bray Productions, which ran until 1925. With J.R. Bray he co-developed and patented the cel animation process in 1914. He later worked at studios including Van Beuren, Iwerks and Disney, where he contributed story adaptation to *Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs* (1937) and work on shorts such as *Elmer Elephant* (1936) and *Mickey's Rival* (1936), as well as *Fantasia* (1940).
