## Biography

Eberhard von der Heyden (1909–1941) was a German cinematographer. He began his career as a camera assistant during the early sound film period and specialised in aerial photography.

In 1936 he joined Leni Riefenstahl’s camera team for the documentary *Olympia* (released 1938 in two parts). He later worked as a cinematographer on feature films and documentaries including *Ziel in den Wolken* (1938), the propaganda film *Im Kampf gegen den Weltfeind* (1939) and *Kampf um Norwegen – Feldzug 1940* (1940). He also contributed to the Deutsche Wochenschau newsreels.

Von der Heyden died on 26 April 1941 near Corinth, Greece, during a parachute jump while filming a military operation for the newsreel service.
