Ed Bernard was an American actor. He was born on 4 July 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died on 23 January 2026 in Northridge, California.

He began his career with stage work, including an off-Broadway production in 1969 and a season with the Tyrone Guthrie Theater in 1970. His screen debut came in the 1971 film *Shaft*, followed by roles in *Across 110th Street* (1972) and *The Hot Rock* (1972).

Bernard was a series regular as Detective Joe Styles on *Police Woman* (1974–1978) and as Principal Jim Willis on *The White Shadow* (1978–1980). He appeared as Sgt. Short in the 1983 film *Blue Thunder*, and had later credits including *Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey* (1993), episodes of *ER* (2005) and *Cold Case* (2005).
