## Biography

Ed Spiegel (1922–2010) was an American film and television editor, director and producer. He began working as an editor in the early 1950s and received a co-editing credit on the independent feature *Salt of the Earth* (1954).

Spiegel edited episodes of several documentary series, including *Confidential File* (1955–1958) and *Biography* (1962). In 1973 he won a Primetime Emmy Award for editing the episode "Surrender at Appomattox" of the series *Appointment with Destiny* (1972). He also directed documentary specials and wrote the book *The Innocence of the Eye: A Filmmaker's Guide* (2001).
