## Biography

Edgar J. Scherick (1924–2002) was an American television executive and producer of television miniseries, made-for-television films and theatrical motion pictures. Born in New York City, he began his career in advertising and sports broadcasting, founding Sports Programs Inc. in 1956 and creating ABC's Wide World of Sports. He later served as vice president of programming at ABC, where he developed series including Bewitched, Batman and Peyton Place.

After leaving ABC, Scherick formed Palomar Pictures International and produced or executive-produced numerous films and television projects. His credits include Take the Money and Run (1969), The Heartbreak Kid (1972), Sleuth (1972), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), The Stepford Wives (1975) and Raid on Entebbe (1976). He also produced television films and miniseries such as Path to War (2003). Scherick died in Los Angeles of complications from leukaemia.
