She won a Tony Award for her role as Daisy Mae in the 1956 musical *Li'l Abner*. Adams appeared in films including *The Apartment* (1960) as Miss Olsen, *Lover Come Back* (1961), *It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World* (1963) as Monica Crump, and *Up in Smoke* (1978) as Tempest Stoner. She was also known for television work such as *The Carol Burnett Show* and *Murder, She Wrote*.
