## Biography

Edward Colman (1905–1995) was an American cinematographer. He began his career in the 1930s as an assistant cameraman and contributed aerial photography to *Hell's Angels* (1930). He later worked in Britain on films including *Things to Come* (1936).

From 1953 he maintained a long association with Walt Disney Studios, serving as director of photography on numerous live-action features and the television series *Dragnet*. He received Academy Award nominations for his work on *The Absent-Minded Professor* (1961) and *Mary Poppins* (1964), and an Emmy nomination for *Dragnet* in 1956. His other Disney credits include *The Shaggy Dog* (1959), *That Darn Cat!* (1965), *The Ugly Dachshund* (1966), *The Gnome-Mobile* (1967), *Blackbeard's Ghost* (1968) and *The Love Bug* (1968). He retired after the latter film.

Colman was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and the brother of cinematographer Ben Colman.
