Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 10 March 1911, he appeared in over 70 films between the early 1930s and the mid-1950s, often in supporting roles, as well as in television from 1951 to 1963. He is credited as Joe Marsh in *Boys Town* (1938). Other film roles include uncredited parts in *Queen Christina* (1934) and *Mad Love* (1935), and appearances in *They Won't Forget* (1937), *The Man from the Alamo* (1953) and *The Kentuckian* (1955). On television he guest-starred in episodes of *Perry Mason* and made his final screen appearance in the 1963 *The Third Man* episode "Ghost Town".
